Oprah Winfrey has refused to promote OJ Simpson’s controversial new book If I Did It because she thinks that it is ‘despicable’. The book is a hypothetical description of how he would have murdered his ex wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman in 1994.

Simpson had been acquitted in a 1995 criminal trial for the murders, but found financially liable in a civil death trial. Oprah, in an interview with Goldman’s father Fred and sister Kim, said that she would never encourage people to buy the book. “I don’t want to be in the position to promote this book because I, too, think it’s despicable. I’m all for it being published, but I personally wouldn’t want to be in a position to encourage people to buy this book,” Contactmusic quoted her, as saying.

The talk show queen was also critical of Goldman’s father and sister for getting the publishing rights of the book, especially after they had fought to stop Simpson from releasing it last year. Fred Goldman defended his decision to release the much-hyped book, saying that it was a ‘confession’ of how Simpson murdered his son and Brown.

“After reading the book, (we) learnt it was not a manual for murder. Absolutely not. We view it as a confession. This isn’t an innocent man writing a book like this. An innocent man doesn’t write a book of how, hypothetically, he would decapitate the mother of his children,” he said.

“We have a judgement, the only form of justice that we were able to attain through the civil court. And that piece of paper is meaningless unless we pursue that judgment. We took away the opportunity from him to earn additional money, and that money is the only form of justice,” he added.
