Uber-tan Charlie Sheen ex Denise Richards crashed and burned this past week when she went AWOL at a Manhattan Volvo opening she was supposed to attend. The blonde-tressed stunner was supposed to make an appearance at the event in exchange for a free Volvo, but never showed.

Denise's reps deny that she was ever contacted for the event, but at least one insider says she simply failed to show, reports the Daily News.

Instead, the not-as-blonde Marcia Gay Harden made an appearance.

Schmidt Told Gossip His Suicide Plans

"Sultan of Sleaze" David Schmidt, who was found dead of an apparent suicide on Friday, had planned for at least two weeks to kill himself -- and confided in a Daily News gossip columnist about his deadly depression.

George Rush, one half of gossip columnist duo Rush & Molloy, said that Schmidt, who was most recently in the news for attempting to extort money from Tom Cruise, called him two weeks ago and told him of another suicide attempt.

"I did something really stupid. I put a belt around my neck in the shower. Fortunately, it didn't work," said Schmidt over the phone.

Rush says he encouraged Schmidt to get help. "He was phoning me every other day. I said, 'You've got to get yourself on some medication. He said he was on some, but it just didn't work for very long.

Former "Baywatch" beauty Pamela Anderson and beau Rick Salomon applied for a marriage license yesterday, according to KVBC in Las Vegas. Here we go down the aisle again!

Sources tell TMZ that the couple could wed as early as today at the infamous "Little White Wedding Chapel." Earlier this month, Anderson, 40, told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres that she was engaged. Salomon, 39, is best known for producing and co-starring in Paris Hilton's sex tape "One Night In Paris," and was previously married to "90210" actress and "Charmed" vixen Shannen Doherty. Miss Anderson is a mother of two and was most recently married to Kid Rock ... for three months.

Pam's currently working at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas -- as a magician's assistant to Hans Klok.

Kate Moss posed for the cover of Pete Doherty’s band’s album but the photo has been axed from the ‘Babyshambles’ album in light of the pairs recent split.

Moss and Doherty split after the rocker cheated on Moss with an African model in July. Moss has reportedly moved on and is allegedly engaged to Jamie Hince.

Instead of using Moss’ provocative photos, record bosses decided to use stand-ins pictures for the album cover.

“The pictures of Kate were amazing. But no one knew who owned the copyright to them. After their nasty split they didn’t want to risk Kate or Agent Provocateur trying to sue them for using her image on the cover,” a source claims. “The decision to change the pictures wasn’t something Pete’s management or the record company took lightly.”

Kate Moss has reportedly told friends she is engaged to her new boyfriend, The Kills' guitarist Jamie Hince.

The supermodel recently split from on-off love interest Pete Doherty.

The proposal is said to have come from Moss during a weekend wedding reception, and an unnamed source told the Daily Mirror "They're clearly in love with each other."

At one point during the interview, an audience member screamed, "I love you Paris!" Letterman quipped, "Is that somebody you met in prison?" Ha! As the crowd erupted in laughter, Paris paused and said, "I didn't come here to talk about this. That was a long time ago. Now you're making me sad that I came."

Speaking to Kirsty Young on Radio 2's Desert Island Discs, the star wished her success in the future, and hoped she could survive the current media storm. "This is the best female vocalist I've heard in my entire career and one of the best writers," he said, "so all I can say is: 'Please, please understand how brilliant you are.'"

Dylan McDermott and his wife of nearly 12 years, actress Shiva Rose, have separated, his rep confirms to PEOPLE.

McDermott, 45, and Rose, 38, have been married since 1995 and have two daughters, 11-year-old Collette and 2-year-old Charlotte.

In a 2001 interview with Diane Sawyer, McDermott says he saw Shiva in a coffee shop and was instantly smitten. "I was in love with her right away," he said. "For her, it was a little longer, you know, a couple of years. But for me, it was right away. I guess it was grace."

McDermott, who played defense attorney Bobby Donnell on The Practice, is back on primetime in the new ABC drama Big Shots alongside Michael Vartan, Joshua Molina and Christopher Titus.

Rose recently starred in the romantic comedy David and Layla opposite David Moscow.

Sporting dark brown hair and eyeglasses, Britney Spears breezed through some shopping in an upscale Atlanta mall over the weekend.

"Unless you actually spoke to her for a minute, you wouldn’t have recognized her," Juicy Couture assistant manager Jake Barnaby told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Monday. Spears, 25, reportedly told Barnaby that she was in Atlanta to escape stress and the paparazzi and to relax.

"She was very well put together and she was really quiet," Barnaby told the paper. "The people with her were actually causing more commotion. After a while, it was like, 'Oh, please. You're nobody. Stop.' "

One saleswoman told PEOPLE, "She seemed in good spirits and was very sweet and complimentary to everyone."

"She was looking for something to wear that night and spent way less than $1,000," the woman added. "Really, she was just in a rush, trying to get in and out. She was done in about 20 minutes."

Spears ended up purchasing a purple dog carrier, a brown eyelet bikini from the sale rack and a shirt or two, the saleswoman said.

Before heading to Georgia, Spears was charged Friday with hit-and-run causing property damage and driving without a valid license, said the Los Angeles City Attorney.

Kiefer Sutherland Formally Charged in DUI Case

Kiefer Sutherland has been formally charged with two misdemeanor counts of DUI, the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office announced Friday.

Prosecutors are also seeking to revoke his probation, stemming from a previous DUI conviction in November 2004.

The 24 star, 40, faces up to one year in county jail if convicted and a $1,000 fine, plus an additional six months if a judge deems he violated probation.

His arraignment is set for Oct. 16. According to a legal source, Sutherland has hired attorney Blair Berk, who is also currently representing Lindsay Lohan.

The actor's rep wasn't immediately available for comment. A spokesperson for 20th Century Fox Television, which produces 24, said Friday that for now, the news of the charges has no impact on the series.

Sutherland was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in the early morning of Sept. 25 in Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles police department.

After leaving a FOX network event at Area nightclub, Sutherland made an illegal U-turn. Officers pulled him over, and the actor failed a field sobriety test.

He was arrested and released on $25,000 bail.

Because of his previous DUI conviction, Sutherland faces a mandatory minimum sentence of four days in jail if convicted for this latest incident, which was his fourth DUI-related arrest.

In 1989, he was arrested for DUI and carrying a concealed and loaded weapon. In a deal with prosecutors, he pleaded no contest to alcohol-related reckless driving, and the other charges were dropped.

He was arrested for DUI again in 1993, and pleaded out the same way. He was given the option of serving 12 days in jail or performing 211 hours of community service, and opted for the latter.

Prosecutors: Michelle Rodriguez Violated Probation

Michelle Rodriguez has failed to fulfill the terms of her probation and may face jail time, the Los Angeles City Attorney's office announced Friday.

"She hasn't shown proof of enrollment to complete 30 days of community service," said City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan. "She could face jail time, but it's up to the judge."

A hearing for the matter is set for Friday.

Rodriguez, 29, had been serving an extended probation term for numerous driving infractions.

In May 2006, she served only four hours and 20 minutes (of a two-month sentence) at the Lynwood, Calif. jail for violating probation, stemming from a DUI arrest in Hawaii in December 2005.

She served, however, just over two days in a Honolulu jail in that case.

In June 2004, Rodriguez had been placed on three years' probation after pleading no contest to DUI and driving with a suspended license from two separate incidents in the Hollywood area in 2003.

Her rep was not immediately available for comment.

Lohan To Leave Rehab This Week?

Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan could be released from rehab as early as this weekend, according to reports.

The star checked into the Cirque Lodge facility in Utah in July to seek counseling following two drunk-driving charges earlier this year.

The 21-year-old also sought help to battle her drug demons after she was caught in possession of cocaine during her DUI arrest.

But Lohan is expected to be released later this week, according to the New York Daily News.

A friend tells the newspaper, "I don't think she knows yet."

Elton John And Victoria Beckham offer homes to Britney Spears

It has been reported that Sir Elton John and Victoria Beckham have become the latest celebrities to offer their homes as a retreat for Britney Spears.

Britney, who attended rehab earlier this year and faces losing her two sons, has been told that she can use Sir Elton’s place to hide away from the media frenzy surrounding her.

Elton said that “He feels so sorry for her because she had fame at such a young age and hasn’t handled it well.”

Victoria Beckham has also reportedly offered Britney a helping hand and has asked their mutual friend, choreographer Adam Shankman, to set up a meeting between them so that she can try and help her out.

Britney currently has to undergo random weekly alcohol and drug tests as part of her joint custody agreement with ex-husband Kevin Federline for their sons Sean Preston and Jayden James.

It is nice to see other celebrities helping out Britney at her time of need.

Let’s hope that she takes them up on the offer of help.

Although there's no word on from where the news originated, let alone any quotes from the pair, after being inspired by Courtney Love (who he supposedly shared a Wetherspoons pub meal deal with recently), Pete's forked out for a rodent corpse encased in a brooch and sent it to the vacuum-nosed model.

Jack's use of the painkiller eventually landed him in rehab in 2003 but he's been drug free since. We can't say the same for Love.

The embattled U.K. soul diva took to the stage at the concert's aftershow party, in the O2's Indigo venue, alongside Beverley Knight.

She performed her own "Love Is A Losing Game" with the diminutive pop legend, some months after Prince first spoke of his desire to perform with her.

Earlier in the evening, he had brought the curtain down on the U.K. leg of his Live Earth concerts, with a 21st gig at London's O2 Arena.

Denise Richards Claims Charlie Sheen Molested Their Daughters

This is the craziest of many crazy allegations by Denise Richards who is trying to smear Charlie Sheen so she can take the children out of his custody. Everything she’s come up with thus far has been denied by Charlie, from hitting the dogs to flashing his penis to underage girls online. Now, she has a fromer nanny on her side, Diana Alvarez. Reports the New York Daily News:

Among other allegations, Alvarez raises the specter of whether Sheen inappropriately touched the girls' "molees" (their nickname for breasts) and their "tushys." Though she lacks concrete evidence, Alvarez claims to be "concerned." She's also "alarmed" by Sheen's sleeping in the same bed as Sam when his fiancée, Brooke Mueller, is in the guest room.

Lawyers meet in Spears' custody dispute

LOS ANGELES - Attorneys for Britney Spears and Kevin Federline were back in court Monday in an ongoing custody dispute involving the pair's children.

Federline's lawyer, Mark V. Kaplan, said the unscheduled court session was called to "refine certain areas" of a judge's previous order in the case. He would not elaborate.

Spears' attorney, Sorrell Trope, confirmed in a telephone interview that the hearing involved issues related to the custody case. He declined to comment further.

The court hearing came days after city prosecutors charged Spears with misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run and driving without a valid license, claiming she smashed her car into another in a parking lot in August.

Kaplan said he does not expect the filing of the misdemeanor charges last week to have any impact on the upcoming hearing dates on Federline's request to increase his custody time with the former couple's two young sons. They divide time with the children equally.

The first hearing date is Nov. 26, but the second date has been delayed from Dec. 18 to early January, Kaplan said.

Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon, who held Monday's in-chambers session with the lawyers, is presiding over the custody dispute. He issued orders last week directing Spears to undergo random testing twice a week after finding she is involved in "habitual, frequent and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol."

If convicted on the driving changes, Spears could face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine for each count. Authorities said the accident occurred Aug. 6, when she was filmed by paparazzi steering her car into another vehicle as she tried to turn into a spot in a parking lot. Spears was scheduled to be arraigned in that case Oct. 10, but she is not required to appear.

Spears, 25, and ex-husband Federline, 29, are the parents of Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1.

Lindsay Lohan stand accused of destroying the marriage of a rock star she was reported to have romanced in rehab.

Lohan was linked with Dead Stays Alive frontman Tony Allen earlier this month after they were both patients at the Cirque Lodge Clinic in Utah.

Now Allen's wife Stephanie has filed for divorce, citing reports of his infidelity with Lohan.

Court documents, obtained by British newspaper News Of The World, claim Allen's "habitual drug use" and "conduct and relationship with another woman" were to blame for the split. The 52-page document includes press cuttings of the reports of his fling with Lohan.

Stephanie Allen is quoted saying: "After my husband's return from rehabilitation I was bombarded with calls alerting me to the fact that my husband's conduct with another woman was on the internet and in gossip magazines."

Tony Allen has always denied sleeping with Lohan, insisting at the time, "We're great friends."

Phil Spector Update: Jury Still Confused

The jury isn’t the only one confused by recent developments in the Phil Spector murder trail, I am too and it sounds like USA Today is as well. The paper reports that the jury, still deadlocked 7-5 was confused about the judges instructions stating that "the defendant must have committed an act that caused the death of Lana Clarkson.” The act was supposed to have been pointing a gun at Clarkson, but now the judge has withdrawn that specific instruction. He gave a new set of instructions today that, according to USA Today, included examples of inferences the jury could draw from the evidence, including the possibility that Spector forced Clarkson to place the gun in her own mouth and it went off.”

Um. How many ways can you be convicted of murder? It’s a hung jury, buddy, stop making it easier. This is how the justice system works.

Pamela Bach, ex-wife of The Hoff, has finally been booked on hit and run charges in a L.A. County Jail.

TMZ has learned that just minutes ago, Pamela Bach turned herself in to LAPD officers at the Van Nuys Jail. The L.A. Sheriff's Dept. web site says Bach's arrest time was 2:50 PM this afternoon. She was officially entered into the system at 3:10 PM.

Pamela is accused of crashing her white Mercedes into a parked car and fleeing the scene back in January. She is due back in court tomorrow, with mugshot in hand to face the judge.

I thought this was over!

Date Finally Set for Daniel Smith Death Inquest

A date has finally been set in the Bahamian inquest on the death of Daniel Smith, Anna Nicole's son.

The inquest, which will begin October 30, will feature testimony from at least 35 witnesses, including Howard K. Stern.

Daniel, 20, died last September in Nassau, just three days after his mother gave birth to his half-sister, Dannielynn.

A private autopsy conducted by famed coroner Dr. Cyril Wecht found a multitude of drugs in Daniel's bloodstream, including methadone and anti-depressants.

The official inquest into Daniel's death has been repeatedly postponed.

Nick Hogan Pleads to Speeding Ticket

TMZ has learned Nick Hogan has pleaded no contest to going double the speed limit. This particular traffic stop occurred just over two weeks before the 17-year-old crashed his Toyota Supra, seriously injuring a friend.

Hogan was popped August 10 when a Pinellas Park police officer saw him speeding through a construction zone.

This morning, a judge ordered the absent Hogan to pay the maximum fine of $1,000, and to complete a 12-hour Driver Improvement course within 90 days. Hogan was also found guilty of failing to wear a seatbelt and fined $73.50.

A former bodyguard who told a Los Angeles judge about Britney Spears’ alleged substance abuse and bizarre behavior wants nothing more than to know that the troubled pop star’s young children are safe.

“I’m not here to destroy Britney. I’m here for the kids,” Tony Barretto told TODAY co-host Matt Lauer during an exclusive interview Monday. “I’m here to speak out on their behalf.”

Last week, a Los Angeles judge determined that Spears has engaged in the “habitual, frequent and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol” and ordered her to take parenting classes and undergo random drug and alcohol testing twice a week.

The ruling was in connection with the court battle between Spears and her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, over primary custody of the couple’s two children, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1.

Barretto has come forward as the “secret witness” who made a declaration to the court testifying to Spears’ drug and alcohol abuse and other bizarre and dangerous behavior. The details of the declaration are sealed, but Barretto has talked about Spears driving into oncoming traffic with her children in the car, walking around her house nude, screaming and acting irrationally, allegedly doing illegal drugs in a nightclub on two occasions and drinking.

Another judge later charged her with misdemeanor hit-and-run and driving without a license for a traffic accident in a parking lot that she did not report.

Barretto’s attorney, Gloria Allred, said that his declaration was the only testimony speaking to Spears’ behavior after she left rehab earlier this year.

“I think the judge gave [his testimony] great weight,” she said, adding that Spears’ attorneys did not challenge him in court.

Barretto, a 6-foot-7 giant of a man, worked for Spears for less than three months and was fired, he says, for failing to hear her order him to pick up her hat, which she had dropped. He said revenge is not a motivation.

“I think it would be inhuman for someone to make those allegations,” he said.

Reluctant witness
Barretto has said he was reluctant to come forward, fearful of being identified and pursued by the tabloid press, but, he told Lauer, he felt he needed to speak out.

“I just wanted to make sure the public and the court and her fans know the truth, and it’s very hard to get that point across,” he said.

He talked about two occasions at a Los Angeles nightclub when he saw her doing drugs.

“One was at her table. She had me hold up a curtain to make her area private,” he said. “At one point it was getting kind of hard to continue to hold the curtain for such a long period of time. The attempt was to look over and get her approval to let go of the curtain, at which point, I noticed what she was doing.”

He said the second incident was at the same Los Angeles club.


“The other occasion, we escorted her to a private rest room upstairs that was secured for her,” he continued. “She was in there for some time alone, and I was waiting for her outside the door. I thought it would be appropriate to check on her, and I knocked and peeked in and I observed this behavior.”

The "demeaning" staff rules were spelt out to Tony on his first day.

He said: "I was told: ‘Don't stink around Britney. Make sure you use cologne and deodorant.

"Don't sweat in her presence—so, as a big guy, I was constantly having to wash my face when I was around her.

"Make sure you've cut your nails. Use mints so she can't be disgusted by your breath.

"Don't stare at her. Act coy when she walks around naked. Don't look at her bottom when she is getting in and out of a vehicle.

"Don't eat in front of her. Her standards were extreme."But Britney— who once made a bodyguard wash a laundry load of bras—was not the most pleasant person to be around.

Tony said: "She has a terrible farting and burping problem. She burps and farts A LOT."

And Tony revealed that Britney expected TWO cups of Starbucks coffee each day when she got up between 1pm and 2pm.

"She would want either ‘The Hot One'—a grande vanilla latte—or ‘The Cold One'—a grande mocha frappe.

"She would only ever have one but I always had to fetch her both. It was such a waste."

Ex-Bodyguard: I Saw Britney Spears Using Drugs

A former bodyguard for Britney Spears – who worked for her after her release from rehab in March and was the much-hyped "secret witness" in Spears and Kevin Federline's custody case – is now making the media rounds, and he says he witnessed Britney using drugs on two occasions.

"They were both in a nightclub in Los Angeles," bodyguard Tony Barretto, who protected Spears, 25, for two months before being fired, said on Monday's Today show. "The incident happened at her table. She had me hold up a curtain, to make her area private."

Barretto, who also spoke to Britain's News of the World in an interview published Sunday, added, "The other occasion was when we escorted her to a private restroom upstairs which we secured for her. She was in there for some time alone ... I thought it would be appropriate to check on her. ... I observed this behavior."

Speaking to Today host Matt Lauer with his attorney, Gloria Allred, at his side, Barretto was asked if he found Spears appearing to be "completely strung out" in a Los Angeles hotel room. Lauer also noted that Spears lives in Los Angeles, suggesting that her being in a hotel room in a city where she already lived qualified as questionable behavior.

"Did you also see evidence of drug use in that hotel?" Lauer inquired.

"I did," said Barretto, who said he was frustrated in not being able to step in and offer help. "It was almost forbidden to talk about her personal life," he said. "Britney doesn't listen to nobody. I mean, that's apparent."

Asked if he ever saw Spears use drugs or abuse alcohol in front of her children, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, Barretto replied, "I have never seen her use drugs in the presence of her children. ... Alcohol? ... I don't know if 'abuse' is the correct language. I have seen her use alcohol."

Last Tuesday, Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon found that Spears is a "habitual, frequent and continuous" user of alcohol and controlled substances, and ordered her to submit to random twice-weekly testing.

Gordon also ruled that both Spears and ex-husband Federline, 29, may not consume alcohol or non-prescription controlled substances at least 12 hours prior to being with their children. Spears is also ordered to meet with a "parenting coach" at least twice a week for a total of eight hours, according to court documents.

On Friday, Spears was charged with hit-and-run causing property damage and driving without a valid license, said the Los Angeles City Attorney.

Allred said Barretto's only motivation for giving interviews about his former employer was because he's the father of two young children himself.

"In my personal opinion," said Barretto, "I'm just happy the judge has stepped in [to] help the kids."

Meanwhile, Spears spent the weekend in Atlanta, sources tell PEOPLE, confirming a report on Perezhilton.com.

"She went to Atlanta [Saturday morning] to get out of the chaos of L.A., just gathering her thoughts, looking for peace," a source said.

Dennis Rodman Accused

The Orange County Sheriff’s department is investigating ex-NBA player Dennis Rodman for sexual battery, reports TMZ. Rodman was at Hennessy’s Tavern in Dana Point, near Laguna beach, where he slapped a waitress on the buss so hard he left a “major mark.”

The statement official statement from the Department said: "Officers did respond to an incident involving a man and a woman. A police report was taken, and is currently with the sex crime unit of the Sheriff's department."

Woman wants share of James Brown estate

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The woman who claims she is the oldest daughter of James Brown said she will be in court Monday to pursue a piece of the late soul singer's estate.

"I've been walking around looking like this man for 45 years," said LaRhonda Petitt, a retired flight attendant and school teacher. "I'm not talking no negative talk, I'm talking about what's right."

A judge is scheduled to go over pending issues in the ongoing court battle over Brown's will, said attorney Jim Griffin, who represents Petitt.

Brown died Christmas Day of heart failure at age 73. His will, which is being disputed, names six adult children. But at least three other people, including Petitt, say DNA testing proves they are his children.

Petitt, who was born and lives in Houston, said Sunday she would like all people claiming to be Brown's children to take a DNA test. "Just because they're in the will doesn't mean they're all my daddy's children," Petitt said.

An attorney for those named in his will and a trustee for the estate did not return phone calls Sunday seeking comment.

Petitt has filed a paternity action to legally establish that she is Brown's daughter, Griffin said.

"He had kids everywhere," Petitt said. "And each one of those kids can do something positive."

She also has two claims against his estate, one to share in the estate as a natural child who was not provided for by the will and a second claim for back child support.

Griffin said those issues won't be discussed in court Monday.

Petitt said she also would like to see Brown's body moved to a mausoleum so family and friends can visit more easily. His body has been entombed in a crypt at the home of one of his daughters since March.

"That is 100 percent untrue," Brooke tells People. "Denise begged us on a few different occasions not to tell the girls we were engaged." As for e-mails from Brooke to Denise where she allegedly apologizes for Charlie's angry tirades, Brooke believes the e-mails were edited by Denise. "It's a shame that Denise conveniently edited my e-mail correspondence to serve her own interests," says Brooke. "She would be both mortified and embarrassed if I released any one of her 40 e-mails to me. But she knows my character and humanity and knows that I would never do such a thing... Denise's claims are laughable at best."

NICOLE TRIED CHEATING ON O.J.

September 22, 2007 -- JAMES Woods says Nicole Brown Simpson wanted to have an affair with him behind O.J. Simpson's back and that the couple once seemed to invite him to be part of a threesome.

The skirt-chasing "Shark" star told Craig Ferguson on "The Late Late Show" he started getting weird vibes from the couple when Simpson invited him to dinner years before Nicole was savagely murdered.

As they sat in a fancy restaurant in Palm Springs and Simpson got into a conversation with Nicole's sister Denise Brown, Nicole began eyeing Woods. "[She was] this curvy, gorgeous blonde . . . and she starts talking to me, and everything is about how she is really not happy with her marriage. I'm going through a divorce at the time, and I'm taking the bait. I guess I'm kind of being set up," Woods recalled.

Later, when he got back to his hotel, Woods said O.J. and Nicole, looking cozy, walked by his room and invited him for a "late-night nightcap" in their suite. "It was very odd," he told Ferguson. "About four days later, I get at my house a letter from her, 'Dear Jimmy,' with a little heart where the 'i" is, [saying] 'O.J. is out of town, maybe you would like to get together.' [I thought], this can't be possible."

Meanwhile, Simpson's recent armed robbery bust in Las Vegas has revealed the extent of the business that has developed over his signed sports memorabilia. While O.J. claims he was simply re-taking possession of collectibles that were rightfully his, the hotel room confrontation sounds more like a scene from "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre," the classic tale of gold and greed consuming partners who end up killing each other.

Celia Farber, who wrote about "O.J. Incorporated" for Rolling Stone in 2000, reports Simpson had been selling his signature through agent Mike Gilbert since 1989, but the market really took off five years later after the double murder of Nicole and Ron Goldman, when Simpson's autograph quadrupled in value.

Gilbert would sneak items into the courthouse, past the media hordes outside. "We just kept signing . . . for the entire 16 months that O.J. was incarcerated . . . while they were delivering the verdict, we were still signing," Gilbert told Farber.
